Catheter Care Support: Safe, Dignified and Person-Centred Care
Living with a catheter can be an important part of maintaining health, comfort and independence. While catheter care may be a routine part of daily life for some people, it often requires specialised knowledge, attention to hygiene and careful monitoring to ensure ongoing wellbeing.
At Quad Care, we provide safe and person-centred catheter care support for NDIS participants with complex health and high intensity support needs. Our trained and competency-assessed support workers work alongside participants, families and healthcare professionals to ensure care is delivered with dignity, respect and a strong focus on individual preferences and goals.
The Continence Foundation of Australia provides valuable information and resources relating to bladder health, continence and catheter management.
What is Catheter Care?
Catheter care involves supporting a person who uses a urinary catheter to manage bladder function. Depending on an individual’s circumstances, support may include monitoring catheter function, maintaining hygiene, assisting with drainage bags, identifying potential concerns and following individualised care plans developed by healthcare professionals.
Every participant is different, which is why catheter care should always be tailored to individual needs, routines and clinical recommendations.
Why Safe Catheter Care Matters
Good catheter management helps support health, comfort and quality of life.
Effective catheter care may help:
- Reduce the risk of infection
- Promote comfort and wellbeing
- Support bladder health
- Improve confidence and independence
- Enable participation in daily activities
- Reduce the likelihood of avoidable complications
By providing consistent and attentive support, our team helps participants feel comfortable and confident in their day-to-day lives.
Dignity and Respect Come First
At Quad Care, we understand that catheter care is highly personal.
Our support workers focus on:
✅ Protecting privacy
✅ Maintaining dignity
✅ Encouraging participant choice and control
✅ Supporting independence wherever possible
✅ Building trusted and respectful relationships
We take the time to understand each participant’s preferences, routines and comfort levels so support feels natural and empowering rather than clinical.
